Stephen Abrams
President & Founder
Stephen Abrams is a general dental practitioner with over 30 years of clinical experience. Upon graduation from the University of Toronto Faculty of Dentistry in 1980 he established a group practice in Toronto Canada, which has grown to involve general dentists and dental specialists. He established a dental supply company, Shywar Dental Supplies, which helped emerging companies develop and bring their products to the Canadian market place. Twelve years ago, he founded Four Cell Consulting which now provides consulting services to dental companies particularly in the area of new product development and marketing. Over the last seven years, Four Cell Consulting has also been offering medico-legal advice in the areas of dental malpractice, legal reports and quality assurance.
In 1999, Dr. Abrams began working with Dr. Mandelis to help create a device for the detection of pit and fissure caries. He is actively involved in the research and development of The Canary System™ for the diagnosis of caries. He currently jointly holds patents on this new technology.
He is a fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy and the Academy of Dentistry International, International College of Dentists and a member of the Canadian Academy of Esthetic Dentistry, International Academy of Dento-Facial Esthetics, International Association for Dental Research and the Canadian Association for Public Health Dentistry. Dr. Abrams is a senior member of the European Organization for Caries Research (ORCA) where he has presented a number of posters on the science of The Canary System™ for detection of early lesions. He was also an invited speaker at the 3rd University of Indiana Conference on Caries Detection in 2003 where he spoke about utilizing PTR for early caries detection. Dr. Abrams has published over 100 papers in various international publications on topics ranging from early caries detection, prevention, removable prosthetics and restorative dentistry. He has developed the "Triple Laminate Technique" for utilizing soft tissue undercuts when fabricating complete and partial dentures. He has lectured at a number of dental conferences including the Pacific Dental Meeting in April where he spoke about the management of early childhood caries.
Dr. Abrams has been very active in the Ontario Dental Association. He has chaired their Dental Benefits Task Force for the last twelve years, negotiating with the provincial government and local municipalities across Ontario on the various government sponsored dental programs. He has dealt with issues of access to dental care, design of dental programs and the value of preventive dentistry while chairing this ODA Task Force. In 2002, Dr. Abrams was awarded the Barnabus Day Award from the Ontario Dental Association for 20 years of distinguished service to the dental profession. He was recently chair of the joint IADR / ODA Symposium on Designing Dental Programs for High Risk Children. He is one of the founding board members of ACCERTA Claim Corporations, a dental and pharmacy claims management company.
